Indications/Uses
Adult women & adolescent girls who are planning a pregnancy or who are pregnant. Prevention & treatment of vit & mineral deficiencies in preparation for, & during pregnancy. Risk reduction of 1st occurrence neural tube defects & other congenital abnormalities when taking the product for the recommended duration starting at least 1 mth before conception. Prevention & treatment of Fe & folate deficiency anemia during pregnancy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult woman & adolescent girl 1 tab daily at least 1 mth before conception (when planning a pregnancy) & throughout the pregnancy. To be taken at noon or in the evening in case of morning sickness.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ a glass of water. Take preferably w/ a meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Existing hypervitaminosis D; hypercalcaemia; severe hypercalciuria; Fe &/or Cu metabolism disorders. Severe impaired renal function.
Special Precautions
Stop treatment if allergic reaction occurs. Do not exceed recommended dose. Patients receiving other single vit or multivit prep, any other medication or those under medical care. Take w/ caution together w/ other products, including supplements &/or fortified foods/drinks containing vit D. Patients w/ nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis. Not recommended w/ foods containing high oxalic acid or phytic acid conc. Chronic overdose of vit D might be harmful to the fetus. Avoid vit D overdose as permanent hypercalcaemia can lead to physical & mental retardation, supravalvular, aortic stenosis & retinopathy in the child. Do not exceed daily intake of Ca 2,500 mg, & vit D 4,000 IU (100 mcg) during pregnancy & lactation. Intake of food rich in vit D & fortified foods & drinks, which may contain high levels of vit. Permanent vit D overdose might be harmful to the neonate. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI & abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea & vomiting; allergic or anaphylactic reactions including hives, facial swelling, wheezing, skin reddening, rash, blisters, & shock; exanthema. Vit B2: Slight yellow discoloration of urine. Fe: Black colouring of the stool.
Drug Interactions
Absorption of Fe may be decreased by concurrent administration w/ antacids, gastric acid suppressive medications, fluoroquinolone, bisphosphonates, levodopa, levothyroxine, penicillamine, tetracycline antibiotics or trientine. Products containing Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu or Zn may interact w/ orally administered antacids, antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones), levodopa, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, thyroxine, trientine, digitalis, antiviral agents & thiazide diuretics. Oxalic acid & phytic acid may inhibit Ca absorption.
