Indications/Uses
Relief of pain & inflammation in musculoskeletal & joint disorders eg, RA, OA, & ankylosing spondylitis; peri-articular disorders eg, bursitis & tendinitis; soft-tissue disorders eg, sprains & strains; other painful conditions eg, renal colic, acute gout, dysmenorrhea, & post-op pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active gastric or intestinal ulcer, bleeding or perforation. Patients whom attacks of asthma, urticaria, or acute rhinitis are precipitated by ASA or other NSAIDs. Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac failure. Pregnancy (last trimester).
Special Precautions
Not to be given to patients w/ history of CVA, MI, CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF NYHA II-IV; history of peptic ulcers, asthma or bronchospasm, bleeding disorders & those receiving coumarin anticoagulants. Patients w/ cardiac decompensation, HTN & renal disease; suffering from severe hepatic or renal damage. Not to be used during pregnancy (1st & 2nd trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, nausea, & diarrhea. Peptic ulceration & severe GI bleeding.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effects of oral anticoagulants. Increased plasma conc of lithium, MTX, & cardiac glycosides. Increased risk of nephrotoxicity w/ ACE inhibitors, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, or diuretics. Increased risk of hyperkalaemia w/ ACE inhibitors & some diuretics including K-sparing diuretics. Reduced antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors, β-blockers, & diuretics. Convulsions w/ quinolones. Increase effects of phenytoin & sulfonylureas. Increased risk of adverse effects w/ other NSAIDs including aspirin & misoprostol. Increased risk of GI bleeding & ulceration w/ corticosteroids, SSRIs, venlafaxine, antiplatelets, or pentoxifylline. Increased risk of haematotoxicity w/ zidovudine. May increase plasma conc w/ ritonavir. Alter efficacy of mifepristone.
