Each tablet contains Ascorbic acid 500 mg.
Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid), a water-soluble vitamin, is essential for the synthesis of collagen and intercellular material. Vitamin C deficiency develops when the dietary intake is inadequate. It is rare in adults but may occur in infants, alcoholics or the elderly. Deficiency leads to the development of a well defined syndrome known as scurvy. This is characterized by capillary fragility, bleeding, anemias, cartilage and bone lesions, and slow healing of wounds.
Ascorbic acid (Cevit) is used in the treatment and prevention of vitamin C deficiency.
One or two tablets daily or as prescribed by the physician.
It has been reported that large doses may result in hyperoxaluria and the formation of renal calcium oxalate. Ascorbic acid should therefore be given with caution to patients with hyperoxaluria.
Ascorbic acid is generally well tolerated. However, large doses have been reported to cause diarrhea and other gastro-intestinal disturbances.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
