Description
Each gram contains: Clotrimazole 10 mg.
Action
Pharmacology: The active substance of Candiva is Clotrimazole which is biphenyl-(2-Chlorophenyl)-1-imidazolyl-methane.
Clotrimazole (Candiva) has a wide spectrum of activity against Dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton), yeasts (Candida sp., Torulopsis sp.), mould fungi and other fungi (Aspergillus sp., Malassezia furfur, Nocardia sp. etc.).
It also has action against Trichomonas and some strains of Gram-positive bacteria (Streptococci, Staphylococci and Corynebacterium minutissimum) and Gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides and Hemophilus vaginalis).
Clotrimazole (Candiva) acts on the cell membrane of the fungus.
It appears that it inhibits protein synthesis and influences the utilization and the incorporation of the acylated amino acids essential to fungi.
Radioactive tracer studies have shown excellent penetration of Clotrimazole (Candiva) in various skin layers at highly active concentrations ensuring potent fungicidal activity.
Indications/Uses
Clotrimazole (Candiva) can be used with benefit in the following conditions: Tinea capitis, tinea barbae, tinea unguium, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, tinea versicolor, candidal intertrigo, candidal paronychia, candidal vulvitis, candidal balanitis, anogenital candidiasis, fungal diaper dermatitis, erythrasma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream: The affected area should be washed and thoroughly dried. Clotrimazole (Candiva) Cream is evenly rubbed into the affected area 2-3 times daily. Treatment should continue for 2-4 weeks after the disappearance of all signs of infection to ensure mycological cure and prevent relapses.
Contraindications
Except for rare cases of hypersensitivity, there are no contraindications.
Adverse Reactions
Cream: The local tolerance of Clotrimazole (Candiva) Cream is excellent and no systemic effects are seen with topical use. Rarely, patients may experience local irritation and burning sensation. This gradually disappears on continuing therapy.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light.
