Indications/Uses
FC tab: Acute & recovery phase of cerebral infarction (eg, ischemia due to stroke). Cognitive dysfunction due to degenerative (eg, Alzheimer's disease) & cerebrovascular disease. Cerebral insufficiency (eg, dizziness, memory loss, poor conc, disorientation) due to head trauma or brain injury. Parkinson's disease. Soln for inj: Patients w/ disturbances of consciousness resulting from a head injury, brain operation & in the acute stage of cerebral infarction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FC tab Adult 1 tab once daily or bid. Soln for inj Disturbance of consciousness resulting from head injury or brain operation Adult 100-500 mg once daily or bid by IV drip infusion or IV/IM inj. Disturbance of consciousness in the acute stage of cerebral Infarction 1,000 mg once daily by IV inj for 2 consecutive wk. Persistent intracranial hemorrhage Max: 1,000 mg daily by very slow IV (30 drops/min).
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take w/ or between meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. FC tab: Patients w/ hypertonia of the parasympathetic nervous system.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. FC tab: Large doses may aggravate increase in cerebral blood flow in episodes of persistent intracranial hemorrhage. Soln for inj: Should be administered in conjunction w/ hemostatics & ICP relieving drug or treatment for hypothermia in patients w/ acute, severe & progressive disturbances of consciousness from a head injury or brain operation. Start administration w/in 2 wk after an apoplectic stroke in patients w/ disturbances of consciousness in the acute stage of cerebral infarction. IM administration. Avoid inj at sites along the course of the nerves. Shocks may occur. Discontinue if any abnormalities eg, drop in BP, distressed feeling of chest or dyspnea are observed. Persistent intracranial hemorrhage.
Adverse Reactions
Rash. FC tab: Bradycardia, tachycardia, hypotension; diarrhea, epigastric distress, stomach pain; dizziness, headache, fatigue. Soln for inj: Insomnia, occurrence or intensification of numbness of paralyzed extremities (when used in patients w/post-apoplectic hemiplegia), nausea, abnormal lab values for LFT & warmth feeling.
Drug Interactions
FC tab: Potentiated effects of L-dopa. Do not administer w/ products containing meclofenoxate. Soln for inj: May enhance effects of levodopa, carbidopa & entacapone. Do not administer w/ products containing centrophenoxine.
