Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Acute & maintenance treatment of schizophrenia Starting & target dose: 10 mg or 15 mg once daily. Dose increases should not be made before 2 wk. Adolescent 13-17 yr Treatment of schizophrenia Starting daily dose: 2 mg, titrated to 5 mg after 2 days & to target dose of 10 mg after 2 additional days. Administer subsequent dose increases in 5 mg increments.

Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not for treatment of patients w/ dementia-related psychosis. Efficacy for maintenance treatment of schizophrenia has not been evaluated in ped population. Increased risk of death & incidence of cerebrovascular adverse events (eg, stroke, transient ischemic attack), including fatalities, in elderly w/ dementia-related psychosis.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, akathisia, sedation, tremor, restlessness, extrapyramidal, psychotic, eye & GI disorder, diarrhea, toothache, upper abdominal & back pain, musculoskeletal stiffness, myalgia, agitation, dysmenorrhea, rash,  blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal discomfort, salivary hypersecretion, general disorders & administration site conditions, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Increased clearance & lowered blood levels w/ CYP3A4 inducers (eg, carbamazepine). Inhibited elimination & increased blood levels w/ CYP3A4 (eg, ketoconazole) or CYP2D6 (eg, quinidine, fluoxetine, or paroxetine) inhibitors. Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol.
