Description
Multivitamins + Iron (Reformulated) (Appetite OB) is a pale cream to grayish brown powder contained in empty gelatin capsule size #0 with pink body and blue cap.
Each capsule contains: Iron 65.73 mg (equivalent to 200 mg ferrous sulfate monohydrate), Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) 100 mg (equivalent to 112.49 mg sodium ascorbate), Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) 20 mg, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 2 mg (equivalent to 2.54 mg riboflavin phosphate), Thiamine mononitrate (Vitamin B1) 2 mg, Pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) 2 mg, Folic acid (Vitamin B9) 400 mcg, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) 10 mcg.
Action
This medicine contains ascorbic acid (in a form of sodium ascorbate), nicotinamide, riboflavin phosphate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, cyanocobalamin, and iron (in a form of ferrous sulfate monohydrate).
Indications/Uses
This medicine is used for the prevention and treatment of deficiencies in vitamin C, vitamin B-complex, folic acid, and iron; and for pre-natal and post-natal supplementation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Dose: One (1) capsule daily or as prescribed by a physician.
Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for better iron absorption. May be taken with food if stomach upset occurs.
Missed dose: If the patient missed a dose, just continue taking the recommended dose per day.
Overdosage
Excessive intake of this medicine may cause acute renal failure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bright yellow urine, headache, irritability, increased heart rate, weakness, numbness, decreased appetite, sleep problems, anxiety, excitability, allergic reactions, abdominal pain, black colored stool, and vomiting of blood.
When the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: Consult the doctor immediately if the patient experiences any of the signs and symptoms of overdose.
Contraindications
Do not take this medicine if the patient has an allergy to any of the ingredients of this product.
Special Precautions
Do not take more than the recommended dosage unless prescribed by a physician.
Keep out of reach of children as overdose may be fatal.
When should a patient consult a doctor: Consult the doctor if the patient experiences any undesirable effects.
Adverse Reactions
Adverse events with B vitamins, ascorbic acid and iron are rare although numbness, hypersensitivity reactions, constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain, black stool discoloration, and bright yellow urine have been reported.
Drug Interactions
Consult the doctor first if the patient is taking proton pump inhibitors, fluorouracil, levodopa, anticonvulsants, altretamine, sulfasalazine, methotrexate, cotrimoxazole, lithium therapy, aspirin, H2-receptor antagonist, neomycin, colchicine, chloramphenicol, antacids, penicillamine, tetracycline, cefdinir, methyldopa, quinolone antibiotics, or levothyroxine.
Avoid drinking coffee, tea, or red wine while taking this medicine.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
Protect from light.
