Ambroxol HCl
Indications/Uses
Tab: Secretolytic therapy in acute & chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated w/ abnormal mucus secretion & impaired mucus transport. Syr: Relief of cough secondary to acute & chronic resp tract diseases accompanied by excessive lung secretions (eg, chronic & asthmatic bronchitis, bronchial asthma).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab tid. Therapeutic effect may be enhanced w/ 2 tab bid. Syr Adult & childn >10 yr 10 mL tid. Childn 6-10 yr 5 mL tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food. Tab: Take w/ liqd.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Tab: Rare hereditary conditions that may be incompatible w/ excipient.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if new skin or mucosal lesions occur. Reports of severe skin lesions (eg, SJS & TEN). Tab: Patients w/ renal impairment. Syr: Not to be taken if patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Tab: Anaphylactic reactions including anaphylactic shock, angioedema, rash, urticaria, pruritus, & other hypersensitivity; nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia & abdominal pain. Syr: Heartburn, indigestion, occasionally nausea, & vomiting. Rarely, allergic reactions (primarily skin rashes).
Drug Interactions
Increased conc of amoxicillin, cefuroxime & erythromycin in bronchial secretions & sputum. Tab: Expectoration of liquefied bronchial mucus may be impaired w/ antitussives.
