Indications/Uses
Fever & pains due to headache & toothache, & those associated w/ colds, flu & sore throat.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 11-12 yr or 33-43 kg 15 mL every 6 hr. Max: 1,200 mg; 9-10 yr or 27-32 kg 12.5 mL every 6 hr. Max: 1,000 mg; 6-8 yr or 22-26 kg 10 mL every 6 hr. Max: 800 mg; 4-5 yr or 16-21 kg 7.5 mL every 6 hr. Max: 600 mg; 2-3 yr or 11-15 kg 5 mL every 6 hr. Max: 400 mg.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, aspirin, NSAIDs. Concurrent or previous history of GI bleeding or ulceration.
Special Precautions
Do not give in patients w/ asthma, heart or kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, HTN, developed allergic reaction. Increased risk of heart attack or stroke (long-term continuous use). Inadequate fluid intake or lost fluids due to continuous vomiting or diarrhea in childn <12 yr. Discontinue use if pain gets worse or lasts >10 days & if fever persists or last >3 days; red or swollen painful area or blood in vomit or bloody stool appear. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea w/ or w/o vomiting, GI bleeding & ulceration. Agranulocytosis, anemia, aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, cardiac failure, MI, angina pectoris, tinnitus, vertigo, visual disturbance, abdominal distension, Crohn's disease, colitis, constipation, dyspepsia, flatulence, GI perforation, hematemesis, melena, mouth ulceration, edema, swelling, peripheral edema, liver disorder, abnormal hepatic function, hepatitis, jaundice, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reaction, meningitis, aseptic meningitis, decreased hematocrit & Hb, dizziness, headache, CVA, nervousness, hematuria, interstitial nephritis, renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, proteinuria, renal papillary necrosis, asthma, bronchospasm, dyspnea, wheezing, angioneurotic edema, dermatitis bullous, TEN, erythema multiforme, face edema, rash, rash maculo-papular, pruritus, purpura, SJS, urticaria & HTN.
Drug Interactions
Other NSAIDs, anticoagulants. Increased risk of GI bleeding w/ SSRIs. Increased plasma conc of lithium.
