Inactivated rabies vaccine (Wistar rabies PM/WI38 1503-3M strain) prepared on Vero cells
Indications/Uses
Pre- & post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies in all age groups.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Pre-exposure Conventional regimen: 1 dose 0.5 mL IM/0.1 mL intradermal (ID) inj on D0, D7 & D21 or D28 or 1-wk regimen: 1 dose 0.5 mL IM inj on D0 & D7 or 0.1 mL ID inj at 2 sites on D0 & D7. Post-exposure Fully immunised patient 1 dose 0.5 mL IM/0.1 mL ID inj on D0 & D3. Non-immunised patient Essen regimen: 1 dose 0.5 mL IM inj at D0, D3, D7, D14 & D28 or Zagreb regimen: 1 dose 0.5 mL IM inj at 2 sites on D0, 1 dose at D7 & D21 or New Thai Red Cross regimen: 0.1 mL ID inj at 2 sites on D0, D3, D7 & D28 or Institute Pasteur of Cambodia regimen: 0.1 mL ID inj at 2 sites on D0, D3 & D7 or 4-site 1-wk regimen: 0.1 mL ID inj at 4 sites on D0, D3 & D7.
Contraindications
Pre-exposure: Hypersensitivity to rabies virus, polymyxin B, streptomycin, neomycin or previous inj. Postpone vaccination in case of febrile or acute diseases.
Special Precautions
Known hypersensitivity to polymyxin B, streptomycin, neomycin. Not to be inj intravascularly or into gluteal area. Thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders; anxiety-related reactions eg, syncope, hyperventilation or stress-related reactions; phenylketonuria. Perform blood test 2-4 wk after vaccination in known immunodeficiency due to immunosuppressive disease or concomitant immunosuppressive treatment eg, corticosteroids. Latex-sensitive individuals. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy. Resp monitoring for 48-72 hr in very premature infants (≤28 gestation wk) & w/ history of resp immaturity.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; myalgia; inj site pain, malaise. Lymphadenopathy; inj site erythema & swelling, fever. Adults: Inj site pruritus & induration, flu-like syndrome. Infants & young childn: Irritability, somnolence; inconsolable crying. Insomnia.
Drug Interactions
Interfered Ab production w/ systemic corticosteroids & immunosuppressives. Not to be administered at same site w/ rabies Ig.
