Indications/Uses

Resp tract diseases leading to formation of thick secretions difficult to expectorate eg, acute & chronic bronchitis, laryngitis, sinusitis, tracheitis, flu, bronchial asthma & complementary treatment of mucoviscidosis.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Acute diseases Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr 200 mg tds or 600 mg once daily. Childn 2-12 yr 100 mg tds or 200 mg bd. Long-term treatment 400-600 mg daily for max: 3-6 mth. Mucoviscidosis Childn from 6 yr 200 mg tds or 600 mg once daily.

Overdosage

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Dissolve contents in a glass of water.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Childn <2 yr.

Special Precautions

Discontinue use if bronchospasm occurs. Bronchial asthma; patients w/ or history of peptic ulcer; histamine intolerance. Not to be mixed w/ other drugs. Pregnancy. Not to be used during lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Mouth & lips inflammation, nausea & vomiting, fever, watery eyes/nose, drowsiness, chest tightness, narrowing of airways/difficulty in breathing; anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reaction; severe cutaneous adverse reactions eg, erythema multiforme, SJS & TEN.

Reduced absorption w/ activated charcoal.
