Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Individualized dosage ranging from 0.3-1 IU/kg daily.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be inj IV. Not to be used in insulin infusion pumps. Diabetic ketoacidosis; hyper- & hypoglycaemia; longstanding diabetes; concomitant illness, infections & feverish conditions; adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland diseases; inj site changes. Physical activity or diet changes. Risk of developing lipodystrophy & cutaneous amyloidosis; monitor blood glucose after change of inj site. Avoid accidental mix-ups w/ other insulin prep. Transferring to another insulin type or brand. Combination w/ thiazolidinediones. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal or hepatic diseases. Pregnancy & lactation.
Drug Interactions
Reduced insulin requirements w/ oral antidiabetics, MAOIs, non-selective β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids, sulphonamides. Increased insulin requirements w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, growth hormone, danazol. Masked hypoglycaemia symptoms & delayed recovery from hypoglycaemia by β-blockers. Increased/decreased insulin requirement w/ octreotide/lanreotide. Intensified or reduced insulin hypoglycaemic effect by alcohol. Not to be added to infusion fluids.
