Why do I need this medicine?
Indapamide and Amlodipine are combined in this medicine.

Indapamide + Amlodipine helps to keep your blood pressure under control.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Indapamide + Amlodipine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

It is best to take this medicine in the morning. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not divide, chew, or crush the tablet.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition and response to the medication.

Indapamide + Amlodipine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • severe low blood pressure
  • cardiogenic shock (a serious sudden condition when the heart cannot supply enough oxygen-rich blood to the brain and vital organs of the body)
  • narrowing of the heart valve
  • unstable heart failure (weakness and inability of the heart to pump blood) after a heart attack
  • low potassium level in the blood
  • brain impairment associated with liver disease
  • severe liver disease
  • severe kidney disease
as Indapamide + Amlodipine may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with Indapamide + Amlodipine, alert your doctor immediately. This medicine may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while taking Indapamide + Amlodipine.

Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with this medicine.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • other heart problems e.g. heart failure, heart rhythm disorder, coronary artery disease (narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart)
  • diabetes
  • high uric acid level in the blood
  • malnutrition (nutrient imbalance due to insufficient or excessive dietary intake)
  • kidney disease
  • mild to moderate liver disease
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Indapamide + Amlodipine to the elderly. Elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.

Why is it important to keep my appointments with the doctor?

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
  • Routine tests (e.g. liver and kidney function, blood sugar or electrolyte levels, uric acid level) may be done while you are being treated with this medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
  • Your blood pressure may fall to unsafe levels without you noticing it. Monitor your blood pressure and heart rate regularly during treatment.
  • Regular monitoring of changes in vision and swelling of the ankles, feet or hands may also be needed.
What lifestyle changes can I make to improve my blood pressure?

Regular exercise and eating a healthy diet will help control your blood pressure and improve your overall health. Engage in physical activity like walking for at least 30 to 60 minutes on most days of the week. If you have not exercised for a long time, start with light exercises such as slow walks. Speak to your doctor about what type of exercise would be suitable for you. Follow a healthy diet plan by eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products and reduce your intake of foods high in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. Cutting down on deep-fried foods and using less salt when cooking can kick-start your healthy diet.

If you smoke, you should try to quit. Smoking is harmful to your blood pressure, heart and overall health. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about ways to stop your smoking habit.
What side effects could I experience?
Indapamide + Amlodipine may cause dizziness, headache, or tiredness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

This medicine may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.

Other side effects include any of the following: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, indigestion, tiredness, ankle swelling, muscle spasms, weakness or lack of energy, rash, and flushing.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • muscle weakness or pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, confusion, mood changes, severe dizziness or passing out
  • swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands
  • eye pain or changes in vision
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain, dark coloured urine, swelling in the legs and ankles
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any of these medicines:
  • other medicines for high blood pressure e.g. verapamil, diltiazem, captopril
  • medicines for irregular heartbeat e.g. quinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol
  • medicines for mood disorders e.g. lithium, chlorpromazine, thioridazine
  • medicines used in organ transplants or certain immune disorders e.g. sirolimus, everolimus, temsirolimus
  • medicines to treat fungal infection e.g. amphotericin B, ketoconazole, itraconazole
  • medicines for HIV infection e.g. indinavir, ritonavir
  • water pills or medicines for water retention e.g. amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene
  • certain antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, moxifloxacin
  • NSAIDs (medicines for pain and inflammation) e.g. ibuprofen, celecoxib, high-dose aspirin
  • corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory medicines)
  • allopurinol (medicine for high uric acid level in the blood)
  • metformin (medicine for diabetes)
  • rifampicin (medicine to treat TB, an infection known as tuberculosis)
  • simvastatin (cholesterol-lowering medicine)
  • dantrolene (injectable medicine for malignant hyperthermia [disease causing fast rise in body temperature])
  • baclofen (medicine used for blocking pain and sensation, and relaxing the muscles during procedures)
  • medicines for constipation e.g. bisacodyl
  • medicines for heart disease e.g. digoxin
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Indapamide + Amlodipine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.

Avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice (more than 1 litre a day).

Cut down on your salt intake. This may help lower your blood pressure and improve your overall health. Discuss with your doctor or dietitian about ways to cut down on your salt intake.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
