Elobixibat
Indications/Uses
Chronic constipation (except for constipation associated w/ organic diseases).
Dosage/Direction for Use
10 mg once daily. Max: 15 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity. Documented intestinal obstruction associated w/ tumor, hernia or suspicion of such conditions.
Special Precautions
Drug- & disease-induced constipations. Consider dose reduction, drug interruption or discontinuation if abdominal pain or diarrhoea occurs. Serious hepatic disorder, biliary obstruction or reduced bile acid secretion. Pregnancy. Avoid use during lactation. Low birth wt infants, neonates, nursing infants, infants or ped. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhoea. Abnormal hepatic function; dizziness; lower & upper abdominal pain, abdominal distension & discomfort, nausea, soft faeces; anaemia; increased creatine kinase.
Drug Interactions
Interfered reabsorption of bile acid prep eg, ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid. Attenuated effects w/ Al-containing antacids (eg, sucralfate hydrate, aldioxa), cholestyramine, colestimide. Elevated blood levels & enhanced effects of digoxin, dabigatran etexilate, methanesulfonate. Decreased blood levels & effect of midazolam.
