Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypoglycaemia. IV administration.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj IV or IM. Hypo- or hyperglycaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis; adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland diseases; concomitant illness or emotional disturbances. Physical activity or diet changes. Formation of insulin Ab. Risk of developing lipodystrophy & cutaneous amyloidosis; monitor blood glucose after change of inj site. Transferring to another insulin type or brand. Not to be mixed w/ other insulin prep. Combination w/ thiazolidinediones. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia. Local allergy eg, inj site redness, swelling & itching.
Drug Interactions
Increased insulin requirements by glucocorticoids, thyroid & growth hormones, danazol, β2-sympathomimetics (eg, ritodrine, salbutamol, terbutaline), thiazides. Reduced insulin requirements w/ oral hypoglycaemics, salicylates, MAOIs, ACE inhibitors (eg, captopril, enalapril), ARBs, non-selective β-blockers, alcohol. Increased/decreased insulin requirements w/ somatostatin analogues eg, octreotide, lanreotide.
