Tinea versicolor
Adult: As 1% cream: Apply a sufficient amount onto the affected area(s) once daily. Reassess treatment if there is no improvement in symptoms after the designated treatment period. Adult: As 1% foaming solution: Apply onto the affected area(s) once daily in the evening for 3 consecutive days. May repeat the 3-day course after 2 weeks if infection is not resolved. Vaginal
Vaginal candidiasis
Adult: As pessary: Insert 1 pessary (150 mg) once daily at bedtime for 3 consecutive days. As long-acting pessary: Insert 1 pessary (150 mg) for 1 dose. Dosage and treatment recommendations may vary between individual products (refer to specific product guidelines).

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patient with acute porphyria, using spermicidal contraceptives (vaginal). Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Irritation.
Reproductive system and breast disorders: Vaginal burning sensation, itching, discharge (vaginal).
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Erythema, itching, pruritus, burning and stinging sensation. Rarely, contact dermatitis.
Patient Counseling Information
Topical: Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membrane. Avoid heat, flame, and smoking during and immediately following application (foam). Vaginal cream and pessaries: May damage latex contraceptives (e.g. condoms and diaphragms); use alternative contraceptive measures.
Monitoring Parameters
Reassess diagnosis if no improvement of symptoms after completion of treatment course.
Drug Interactions
May increase serum concentration and enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and acenocoumarol.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Econazole, a synthetic imidazole derivative, is an antifungal agent. It inhibits fungal CYP450-mediated enzyme, lanosterol 14α-demethylase that converts lanosterol to ergosterol resulting in alterations in membrane permeability and consequently penetrate into the cell, interfering RNA and protein synthesis and lipid metabolism.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly and minimally absorbed percutaneously. Time to peak plasma concentration: Foam: 6.8 ± 5.1 hours.
Metabolism: Cream: Metabolised in the liver into >20 metabolites.
Excretion: Cream: Via urine (<1%); faeces (<1%).
