Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe forms of scalp psoriasis in ≥18 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly onto dry scalp once daily & leave w/o covering for 15 min before rinsing. Max: 50 mL wkly. Duration of treatment: 4 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clobetasol propionate or other corticosteroids. Skin areas affected by bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic infections or ulcerous wounds. Application to eyes & eyelids.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if irritation develops. Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, glucosuria; reversible adrenal suppression w/ potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency; hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression. Increased risk of systemic effects. Presence of dermatological infections. Blurred vision or other visual disturbances eg, cataract, glaucoma or central serous chorioretinopathy. Not to be used on face, groin or axillae. Avoid contact w/ eyes & lips. Application over large surface areas or w/ occlusive dressings; prolonged or long-term continuous use. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Pregnancy. Not to be used during lactation. Not recommended in childn between 2 & 18 yr; not to be used in childn <2 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Burning/stinging, pruritus, edema, folliculitis, acne, dry skin, irritant dermatitis, alopecia, urticaria, skin atrophy, telangiectasia.
