Clindamycin and Benzoyl peroxide are combined in this medicine.
This medicine is used to treat acne (pimples).
Apply Clindamycin + Benzoyl peroxide exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more often or over a larger area than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a gel.
To use the gel, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Clean and dry the affected area before application.
- Rub the gel gently on the skin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
- Wash your hands after using.
- Replace the cap of the tube.
Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, vagina, or the inside of your nose. If this medicine gets into these areas, rinse immediately with water. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Do not apply on cuts or open wounds.
Avoid contact of this medicine with your hair or any coloured fabric as it may cause discolouration.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition and your response to the medication.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Clindamycin + Benzoyl peroxide if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- history of inflammatory bowel disease (group of diseases that cause long-term inflammation of the digestive tract)
- history of colitis (inflammation of the lining of the colon [large intestine]) associated with the use of an antibiotic
as Clindamycin + Benzoyl peroxide may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have atopy (an inherited condition associated with heightened immune response to common allergens which may lead to allergic diseases including asthma).
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Clindamycin + Benzoyl peroxide may cause any of the following side effects: headache, itching, dryness, redness, peeling, or a burning sensation in the skin.
This medicine may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
- severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea accompanied by stomach pain or fever
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- certain antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, sulfacetamide
- other topical antibiotics
- other medicines for acne (pimples) e.g. dapsone, isotretinoin, tretinoin, tazarotene
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Clindamycin + Benzoyl peroxide.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Do not freeze.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
