Contents
Tamsulosin hydrochloride.
Description
Each SR tablet contains: Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Polyethylene Oxide, Macrogol 8000, Pregelatinized Starch, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Yellow Iron Oxide, Magnesium Stearate, Butylated Hydroxytoluene.
Indications/Uses
Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.4 mg once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and any component of this product, Orthostatic hypotension, Congestive heart failure.
Special Precautions
Large residual volume and/or severely diminished urinary flow (monitor for obstructive uropathy), exclude prostate cancer.
Adverse Reactions
Heart disorders: Palpitations.
Gastrointestinal disorders: Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth.
General disorders: Asthenia.
Nervous system disorders: Dizziness, headache, syncope.
Reproductive system disorders: Ejaculation disorders, priapism.
Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders: Rhinitis, epistaxis.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Rash, itching, urticaria, angioedema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, photosensitivity reactions.
Vascular disorders: Orthostatic hypotension.
Eye disorders: Blurred vision, visual disturbances.
During cataract and glaucoma surgery, a condition of constricted pupils, known as Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS) has been reported during post-marketing studies.
As with the use of other alpha blockers, drowsiness may occur.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use with Cimetidine increases plasma levels of Tamsulosin, while Furosemide decreases Tamsulosin levels, but since plasma levels are still within the normal range, no dose adjustment is necessary.
Concomitant use with other alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonists may result in hypotensive effects.
