Hyoscine butylbromide

Indications/Uses

GI spasms, spasms & dyskinesia in biliary system, GUT spasm.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult & childn >6 yr 1-2 FC tab 4 times daily.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ adequate water.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Myasthenia gravis, paralytic or obstructive ileus, megacolon, mechanical stenosis of digestive tract, urinary retention w/ subvesical obstruction, narrow-angle glaucoma, tachycardia & arrhythmias.

Special Precautions

Seek immediate medical attention in cases of unexplained severe abdominal pain accompanied by fever, nausea, vomiting, changes in bowel movements, decreased BP, or blood in the stool. May accelerate heart rate in patients w/ tachycardia, thyrotoxicosis, heart failure or insufficiency. Anticholinergic complication in patients w/ intestinal or urinary tract obstruction. Patients w/ high body temp & undiagnosed narrow-angle glaucoma. Immediately consult an ophthalmologist if pain & red eyes along w/ reduced vision occur.

Adverse Reactions

Skin reactions eg, urticaria, rash, erythema, pruritus, hypersensitivity; tachycardia, dizziness, drowsiness; dry mouth, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain; dyshidrosis, inhibition of sweat secretion.

Drug Interactions

Enhanced anticholinergic effects of TCAs, tetracyclic antidepressants, antihistamines, antipsychotics, quinidine, amantadine, disopyramide & other anticholinergics (eg, tiotropium, ipratropium, atropine-like compd). Concomitant use w/ dopamine antagonists (eg, metoclopramide) will counteract the effect of both drugs on GIT. Enhanced tachycardiac effects of β-adrenergic agents.
