Allergic reactions in patients w/ allergy history to sulfonamides. Decrease in BP may occur during therapy; may cause syncope. Orthostatic hypotension (dizziness, weakness); patients should be seated or laid down until the symptoms disappear. Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS) during cataract or glaucoma surgery; may increase risk of eye complications during or after surgery. Temporarily discontinue treatment for 1-2 wk prior to cataract or glaucoma surgery. Not recommended in patients who plan to undergo cataract or glaucoma surgery. Examine patients to ensure that there are no certain conditions that can cause similar symptoms to benign prostatic hyperplasia prior to therapy. Perform rectal & PSA exam prior to therapy or periodically during therapy. Not to be given in combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in patients w/ CYP2D6 metabolic deficiency. Use w/ caution when combined w/ strong & moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min).
