Montelukast

Indications/Uses

Prophylaxis & chronic treatment of asthma in paed 2-5 yr including prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Childn 2-5 yr Asthma 1 sachet of 4 mg oral granules/dissolving film daily. Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction 1 sachet of 4 mg oral granules/dissolving film daily 2 hr before exercise.

Administration

Oral granules: Should be taken with food. Oral dissolving film: May be taken with or without food: May be administered directly into the mouth or tongue, then swallowed w/ saliva or water.

Contraindications

Oral dissolving film: Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Should not be used to treat acute asthma attacks.

Adverse Reactions

Upper resp infection; diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting. Oral dissolving film: Dizziness.

Drug Interactions

Oral dissolving film: Decreased AUC 40% w/ phenobarb.
