Complete or partial reversal of opioid depression & acute opioid overdosage, including resp depression, induced by natural & synthetic opioids, including propoxyphene, methadone & certain mixed agonist-antagonist analgesics: nalbuphine, pentazocine & butorphanol.
Dosage/Direction for Use
AdultKnown or suspected opioid overdose 0.4-2 mg IV, may be repeated at 2-3 min intervals. If there is no response after administration of 10 mg, diagnosis of narcotic induced toxicity should be questioned. May administer by IM or SC if IV route is not available.
Special Precautions
Persons including newborns of mothers who are known or suspected to be physically dependent on opioids; abrupt & complete reversal of opioid effects may precipitate an acute w/drawal syndrome. Avoid abrupt post-op reversal of opioid depression.
