Mupicor Special Precautions

Avoid contact around the eye.
Use with caution if signs of renal impairment exists.
Use with caution during pregnancy. There is inadequate evidence of safety to recommend the use of Mupirocin cream/ointment during pregnancy. Mupirocin should be used in pregnancy when the potential benefits outweigh the potential risk associated with treatment.
Caution should be exercised if the drug is administered to a nursing woman. If cracked nipple is to be treated, it should be thoroughly washed prior to breastfeeding.
In the event of a sensitization or severe local irritation, usage should be discontinued immediately, and appropriate alternative therapy should be instituted.
Prolonged use of the drug may result in overgrowth of non susceptible microorganisms.
Mupicor ointment contains Polyethylene glycol (PEG) which can be absorbed from open wounds and skin damage, which is the excreted in renal. Therefore caution should be exercised when absorption of large quantities of PEG is possible, particularly in patients known to have moderate to severe renal impairment.
