Amoxicillin trihydrate

Indications/Uses

Infections of the skin, ENT, upper & lower resp tract, GUT due to susceptible organisms. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult & childn >20 kg 750-1,500 mg/day, childn <20 kg 20-40 mg/kg/day. To be taken in divided doses every 8 hr.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to penicillins.

Special Precautions

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Prolonged use may result in superinfection. Renal disorders. Neonates from mothers hypersensitive to penicillins.

Adverse Reactions

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria.

Drug Interactions

Plasma t_½ prolonged by probenecid. Allopurinol increases incidence of skin rashes. Reduces effectiveness of OCs.
