Hyoscine-N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Acute spasms eg, renal or biliary colic. Differential diagnosis of obstruction & reduces spasm & pain on pyelography & for other diagnostic procedures where spasm is a problem eg, gastroduodenal endoscopy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV 1 amp, repeat after ½ hr if needed. May be repeated more frequently if used for endoscopy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Porphyria. Not to be given in patients w/ glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy w/ urinary retention, mechanical stenosis of GIT, tachycardia, megacolon.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ heart disorders, ulcerative colitis, paralytic ileus & pyloric stenosis. Avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages. May affect the ability to drive motor vehicles or operate machinery. Pregnancy (especially 1st trimester) & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth & skin, constipation, palpitations, flushing, cardiac arrhythmias, bradycardia & tachycardia; paradoxical reactions (sleep disturbances) & affect vision.
