Flemavel

Relieves occasional constipation &/or as a laxative prior to rectal exam; bowel preparation prior to normal delivery or C-section for women in labour.

Once daily as a single dose. Do not give repeated doses in 24 hr after last administration.

Hypersensitivity to Na phosphate salts or any component of monobasic Na phosphate & dibasic Na phosphates. History of acute phosphate nephropathy; GI obstruction; gastric bypass or stapling surgery; bowel perforation; toxic colitis; toxic megacolon.

Correct electrolyte abnormalities eg, hypernatremia, hyperphosphatemia, hypokalemia, or hypocalcemia before treatment. Patients who are taking medications that increase the risk for fluid & electrolyte disturbances or may increase the risk of arrythmias, seizure, or renal impairment. Hydrate adequately before, during, & after treatment. Consider pre-dose & post-colonoscopy ECGs in patients at increased risk of serious cardiac arrythmias. Patients w/ severe active ulcerative colitis. Consider performing baseline & post-colonoscopy labs (phosphate, Ca, K, Na, creatinine, & BUN) in patients w/ renal impairments. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).

Renal disease, acute phosphate nephropathy, & electrolyte disorders; cardiac arrythmias; seizures. Use in patients w/ significant GI disease: Colonic mucosal ulceration & inflammatory bowel disease; aspiration; hypersensitivity reactions.

Increased risk of acute phosphate nephropathy w/ ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers. Increased risk of seizures w/ concomitant use of TCAs, patients w/drawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, or patients w/ known or suspected hyponatremia.

A06AG01 - sodium phosphate ; Belongs to the class of enemas. Used in the treatment of constipation.
