Indications/Uses
Chronic hyperuricemia in conditions where urate deposition has already occurred.
Dosage/Direction for Use
80 mg once daily. Serum uric acid >6 mg/dL (357 μmol/L) after 2-4 wk & risk factor modification failure 120 mg once daily may be considered.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients treated w/ azathioprine or mercaptopurine.
Special Precautions
Adverse Reactions
Gout flares, liver function abnormalities, diarrhoea, nausea, headache, arthralgia, rash & oedema.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ mercaptopurine, azathioprine, CYP2C8 substrates, theophylline, naproxen or other glucuronidation inhibitors & inducers, colchicine, indomethacin, hydrochlorothiazide, warfarin, desipramine, CYP2D6 substrates.
