Hypersensitivity to desoximetasone or other betamethasone-type corticosteroids. Not to be used on the eyes. May cause leaking or breaking of latex condoms. Patients w/ skin reactions resulting from vaccinations, cutaneous manifestations of TB, syphilis, viral infections eg, chickenpox, rosacea & perioral dermatitis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Patients w/ symptoms of visual disturbances eg, blurred vision should be referred to ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma or rare diseases eg, central serous chorioretinopathy. Possibility of adrenal suppression in prolonged use & application to large skin areas. Periodically evaluate for evidence of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression. Increased IOP can develop if small doses of topical corticosteroids come into repeated contact w/ the conjunctival sac. Discontinue use if irritation develops & if favorable response does not occur promptly. Must only be used for symptomatic therapy of bacterial &/or mycotic skin infections in combination w/ concomitant antibacterial & antimycotic treatment. Infant & childn <6 yr.
