Nifuroxazide is a nitrofuran compound that has a bactericidal effect on Escherichia coli, Shigella dysentriae, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Nifuroxazide works locally in the digestive tract. Nifuroxazide antimicrobial activity is greater than ordinary intestinal anti-infective drugs. In dilute concentrations (1:25,000) Nifuroxazide still has bactericidal power.
