Urethritis & vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis, intestinal & hepatic amoebiasis, giardiasis due to Giardia lamblia. Prophylaxis of post-op anaerobic infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Rate of infusion: 5 mL/min. Treatment of identified bacterial infections in adult & childn >12 yr & patients who cannot receive oral treatmentAdult 500 mg by IV infusion 8 hrly. Childn 7.5 mg/kg 8 hrly. Prophylaxis of post-abdominal surgery (especially in colorectal or gynecology)Adult 500 mg by IV infusion prior to surgery, then 500 mg/oral dose 8 hrly. Childn 7.5 mg/kg (1.5 mL/kg) 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CNS disorders. Alcohol consumption. Blood test should be performed in prolonged treatment. Patients w/ severe hepatic disorders. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
