Clindamycin

Indications/Uses

Infections of resp tract, bone, skin & soft tissues, intra-abdominal, gynaecologic, septicemia.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult 150-300 mg 4 times daily, childn >1 mth 8-25 mg/kg/day. Childn <10 kg Initially 37.5 mg. Hemolytic Strep infection Recommended length of treatment 5-10 days.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ a full glass of water & in an upright position.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clindamycin & lincomycin.

Special Precautions

Superinfection, premature infants, diarrhea. Impaired hepatic & renal function.

Adverse Reactions

GI disturbances, occasionally associated w/ severe colitis, skin reactions, jaundice, hematopoietic changes.

Drug Interactions

Potentiates the effect of neuromuscular blockers. Antagonises neostigmine & pyridostigmine. Antagonism w/ erythromycin.
