Androgen replacement therapy for confirmed testosterone deficiency in male.

Development & stimulation of still underdeveloped androgen-dependent target organs & for initial treatment of deficiency symptoms 1 prefilled syringe as slow IM inj every 2-3 wk. Maintenance treatment 1 prefilled syringe as slow IM inj every 3-4 wk. Shorter inj intervals may be necessary depending on the individual requirement for hormone, but longer intervals of up to 6 wk are also sufficient in many cases.

Hypersensitivity. Prostatic carcinoma, mammary carcinoma in male. Hypercalcaemia accompanying malignant tumours. Previous or existing liver tumours.

Intended for use in men only. Must be injected intramuscularly & extremely slowly. Overreplacement should be avoided. Increased risk for the development of prostatic hyperplasia in older patients. Exclude prostatic carcinoma before starting therapy. Regular examinations of the prostate are recommended. Regularly monitor testosterone levels during treatment; Hb, haematocrit, liver function & blood lipid profile. Patients w/ acquired or inherited bleeding disorders; thrombophilia or risk factors for VTE; patients pre-disposed to oedema; HTN. Cases of benign & malignant liver tumours have been observed. May cause masculisation, accelerate growth, bone maturation & premature epiphyseal closure in childn. Pre-existing sleep apnoea may be potentiated. Concomitant use w/ coumarin-derived oral anticoagulants. Not for enhancing muscular development or increasing physical ability. Not for use in women, pregnant &/or breast feeding women; childn & adolescents. Elderly >65 yr.

Inj site pain, inj site erythema, cough &/or dyspnoea during or immediately after inj.

Increased clearance of testosterone w/ barbiturates & other enzyme inducers. Increased serum levels of oxyphenbutazone. Increased effects of coumarin-derived oral anticoagulants. May enhance the blood sugar reducing effects of insulin.
