Terconazole - Vaginal

Why do I need this medicine?
Terconazole is used to treat fungal infections of the vagina in adults.
How do I use this medicine?
Use Terconazole exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a vaginal cream and suppository.

It is best to use Terconazole at bedtime. Try to use this medicine at the same time each day.

If you have been given the vaginal cream, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Open the tube by puncturing the metal seal with the pointed tip of the cap.
  3. A reusable applicator is provided to help you apply the cream into the vagina. Screw the end of the applicator securely onto the tube.
  4. Slowly squeeze from the bottom of the tube and fill the applicator until the plunger stops.
  5. Unscrew the applicator and replace the cap of the tube.
  6. Lie on your back with both knees bent and legs apart.
  7. Hold the applicator in the middle portion.
  8. Gently insert the applicator into the vagina. Insert only as far as it will comfortably go.
  9. Slowly press the applicator plunger until it stops. This will deposit the medication into the vagina.
  10. Gently withdraw the applicator.
  11. Wash your hands after application.
  12. After each use, thoroughly clean the applicator according to your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
If you have been given the vaginal suppository, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Remove the wrapper from the suppository (and the applicator, if this is given).
  3. If a reusable applicator is supplied, place the flat end of the suppository into the hole at the end of the applicator.
  4. Lie on your back with both knees bent and legs apart.
  5. Gently insert the suppository into the vagina, either using your fingers or the applicator. Insert only as far as it will comfortably go.
  6. If you are using an applicator, press the plunger to release the suppository. Gently remove the applicator.
  7. Wash your hands after application.
  8. After each use, thoroughly clean the applicator according to your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
Terconazole cream and suppository are to be inserted into the vagina. Do not use it in any other way.

Avoid any direct contact of this medicine with your eyes or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if it accidentally gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the severity of your infection.

Use Terconazole at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of this medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use Terconazole if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Maintain good hygiene as this is important in managing fungal infections.

Terconazole may damage the latex of certain "barrier" method contraceptives (e.g. condoms, diaphragm). You may discuss alternative birth control methods with your doctor.

You should avoid the use of vaginal products (e.g. tampons, douches) while you are being treated with this medicine.

Do not engage in sexual contact until your doctor certifies that you are cleared of the infection.
What side effects could I experience?
Terconazole may cause any of the following side effects: headache, abdominal pain, body pain, and vaginal itching, burning sensation or pain.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
  • flu-like symptoms e.g. fever, chills, nausea, muscle or joint pain, weakness
  • rashes with peeling of the skin or blistering of the lips, mouth or eyes accompanied by fever
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
