Per 0.5 mL Inactivated poliovirus type 1 (Mahoney strain) 29 D-antigen unit, inactivated poliovirus type 2 (MEF-1 strain) 7 D-antigen unit, inactivated poliovirus type 3 (Saukett strain) 26 D-antigen unit
Indications/Uses
As primary vaccination & booster for the prevention of poliomyelitis in infants, childn & adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/SC Primary vaccination From 2 mth of age 3 successive inj at intervals of 1 or 2 mth. From 6 wk of age Follow 6, 10, 14-wk schedule. Non-vaccinated adult 2 successive inj at intervals of 1 or, preferably, 2 mth. Booster Administer every 5 yr in childn & adolescent, & every 10 yr in adult. Adult A 3rd dose (1st booster) is administered 8-12 mth after the 2nd inj. Childn 2 yr A 4th dose (1st booster) is administered 1 yr after the 3rd inj.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Imovax Polio, neomycin, streptomycin or polymyxin B. Allergic reaction after previous inj of Imovax Polio or vaccine containing the same substances. Postpone vaccination in case of fever or acute disease.
Special Precautions
Do not inj intravascularly. Risk of bleeding during IM administration in patients w/ blood disorders eg, thrombocytopenia or clotting disorders. Immune response to vaccine may be reduced in patients under immunosuppressive therapy (eg, corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs, RT) or those w/ immunodeficiency/immunosuppression (eg, AIDS). Contains phenylalanine, which may be dangerous for patients w/ phenylketonuria.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain; fever (>38.1°C). Inj site redness.
