Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Relief of fever & pain eg, headache, menstrual cramp, muscular ache & toothache.
Dosage/Direction for Use
A-Mol caplet >67 kg 2 caplets every 4 hr, 50-67 kg 1½ caplet every 4 hr, 34-50 kg 1 tab every 4 hr. Max: 8 caplets in 24 hr. Childn 6-12 yr ½ to 1 caplet every 4-6 hr. A-Mol syr/susp & A-Mol Pediatric susp Childn <12 yr 10-15 mg/kg every 4-6 hr as needed. Max: 5 doses in 24 hr. A-Mol syr & A-Mol Pediatric susp Childn 3-6 yr 5-10 mL every 4-6 hr as needed, 1-3 yr 2.5-5 mL every 4-6 hr as needed, 6 mth to 1 yr 2.5 mL every 4-6 hr as needed. A-Mol susp Childn >12 yr 10-20 mL every 4-6 hr as needed, 6-12 yr 5-10 mL every 4-6 hr as needed, 3-6 yr 2.5-5 mL every 4-6 hr as needed. A-Mol susp & A-Mol Pediatric susp Renal impairment: Adult on continuous renal replacement therapy, w/ CrCl <10 min Administer every 8 hr, CrCl 10-50 mL/min Administer every 6 hr. Childn on peritoneal dialysis, w/ CrCl <10 mL/min Administer every 8 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Not to be used for >5 consecutive days. Pain persisting for >5 days in childn or >10 days in adults, fever persisting for >3 days; presence of swelling or redness & occurrence of new symptoms. Increased risk of liver damage. Not to be used w/ other paracetamol containing product. Liver or kidney disease. Increased risk of wheezing in infant during frequent use in late pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Rash; increased plasma conc of Cl, uric acid or glucose, decreased plasma conc of Na, bicarbonate or Ca; anemia, neutropenia, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia; increased bilirubin & alkaline phosphatase; increased ammonia, nephrotoxicity w/ chronic overdose; hypersensitivity reactions. SJS, TEN, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis.
Drug Interactions
Increased potential hepatotoxicity w/ barbiturates, hydantoins, INH & sulfinpyrazone. Increased antithrombotic effect of warfarin.
