Syr Adult Usual effective dose: 10 mL tds or qds, may be gradually increased up to 20 mL.
Childn >12 yr 5-10 mL tds or qds,
6-12 yr 5 mL tds or qds,
2-6 yr 2.5-5 mL tds or qds.
Soln for infusion Severe bronchospasm & status asthmaticus Adult 3-20 mcg/min.
Patient w/ resp failure Initially 5 mcg/min. Prepare by diluting 5 mL of IV infusion in 500 mL of an infusion soln to provide 10 mcg/mL soln.
Management of premature labour Initially 10 mcg/min, rate increased gradually at 10-min intervals until contractions diminish then increase rate slowly until contractions cease. Usual dose range: 10-45 mcg/min. Maintain rate for 1 hr after contractions have stopped, then gradually reduce by 50% at 6-hrly intervals.
Evohaler Relief of acute bronchospasm Adult 100 or 200 mcg.
Childn 100 mcg, may be increased to 200 mcg if required. On demand use should not exceed qds.
Prevention of allergen or exercise-induced bronchospasm Adult 200 mcg before challenge or exertion.
Childn 100 mcg before challenge or exertion, may be increased to 200 mcg if required.
Chronic therapy Adult & childn Up to 200 mcg qds.
Inhalation soln Intermittent administration Adult 0.5-1 mL (2.5-5 mg) diluted to a final vol of 2-2.5 mL nebulised & administered over 10 min or may use 2 mL (10 mg) of undiluted soln over 3-5 min. May be repeated qds.
Childn <12 yr 0.5 mL (2.5 mg) diluted to a final vol of 2-2.5 mL. Some childn may require higher doses up to 5 mg.
Continuous administration Dilute soln to contain salbutamol 50-100 mcg/mL & administer as an aerosol at rate of 1-2 mg/hr.
