Ticagrelor
Indications/Uses
In combination w/ ASA for prevention of thrombotic events (CV death, MI & stroke) in patients w/ acute coronary syndromes (ACS) (unstable angina, non-ST elevation MI or ST elevation MI); including patients managed medically & those who are managed w/ percutaneous coronary intervention or CABG.
Dosage/Direction for Use
ACS Loading dose: 180 mg & then continued at 90 mg bd. Recommended for at least 12 mth unless discontinuation is clinically indicated. Patients w/ MI initiated on 90 mg Continue treatment w/ 60 mg w/o interruption if they have a high risk of an atherothrombotic event after 1 yr. Take a daily low maintenance dose of ASA 75-150 mg unless specifically contraindicated.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole. May crush to a fine powd & mix in half a glass of water. Administer mixt orally or via nasogastric tube. Take immediately.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active pathological bleeding. History of intracranial haemorrhage. Co-administration w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, clarithromycin, nefazodone, ritonavir, atazanavir). Severe hepatic impairment.
