Sumatriptan
Indications/Uses
Acute relief of migraine attacks w/ or w/o aura including acute treatment of migraine attacks associated w/ menstrual period in women.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 50 mg as a single dose. If patient responded to 1st dose but symptoms recur, 2nd dose may be given w/ min interval of 2 hr & not >300 mg is taken in any 24-hr period.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be given in patients who have had MI or ischaemic heart disease (IHD), Prinzmetal's angina/coronary vasospasm, peripheral vascular disease or those who have symptoms or signs consistent w/ IHD. Not to be administered to patients w/ previous CVA or transient ischaemic attack. Patients w/ uncontrolled HTN. Concomitant use w/ ergotamine or its derivatives (including methysergide). Concurrent administration w/ MAOIs; not to be used w/in 2 wk of therapy discontinuation w/ MAOIs. Severe hepatic impairment.
