Streptomycin sulfate

Indications/Uses

TB in conjunction w/ other anti-TB agents. Tularemia. Chancroid. UTI, resp tract infections, meningitis, endocarditis & pneumonia caused by microorganisms which are susceptible to streptomycin antibacterial effects.

Dosage/Direction for Use

IM TB 15 mg/kg once daily for 5 days in a wk or 25-30 mg/kg bd. Max: 1g. Tularemia 1-2 g daily in divided doses for 7-14 days until patient is afebrile for 5-7 days. Streptococcal endocarditis 1 g bd for 1st wk & 500 mg bd for 2nd wk. Elderly >60 yr 500 mg bd for entire 2-wk period. Enterococcal endocarditis 1 g bd for 2 wk & 500 mg bd for an additional 4 wk in combination w/ penicillin. Chancroid, UTI, meningitis & pneumonia 1-2 g in divided doses every 6-12 hr for moderate to severe infections. Max: 2 g/day.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to streptomycin or other aminoglycosides. Hearing disturbance. Myasthenia gravis. Pregnancy.
