Indications/Uses
Isotonic & hypertonic dehydration. Vehicle soln for compatible medicinal products.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Daily dose: Up to 40 mL/kg/day corresponding to glucose 2 g/kg/day. Infusion & drop rate: Up to 5 mL/kg/hr corresponding to glucose 0.25 g/kg/hr.
Contraindications
Hyperhydration. Hypotonic dehydration. Head trauma (1st 24 hr). Persistent hyperglycaemia not responding to insulin doses of up to 6 u/hr. Hyponatraemia. Acute CHF. Severe renal insufficiency w/ oligo- or anuria. Not to be used in paed patients w/ non-osmotic secretion of ADH (in pain, anxiety, post-op state, nausea, vomiting, pyrexia, sepsis, reduced circulating vol, resp disorders, CNS infections, metabolic & endocrine disorders).
