Naproxen Na
Indications/Uses
Pain & inflammation in rheumatic disease & other musculoskeletal disorders. Acute gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Antirheumatic 275 mg bd. Analgesic & antidysmenorrheal Initially 550 mg, then 275 mg every 6-8 hr as needed. Acute gout Initially 825 mg, then 275 mg every 8 hr as needed.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Asthmatic attack, rhinitis or urticaria induced by aspirin or other NSAIDs. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Asthma or bronchospasm, bleeding disorders, CV disease, peptic ulceration or history of such ulceration. Concomitant use w/ coumarin anticoagulants. Renal failure.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances. Headache, dizziness, nervousness, skin rash, pruritus, tinnitus, oedema, depression, drowsiness, insomnia, blurred vision & other ocular reaction. Hypersensitivity reactions, abnormal liver function tests, renal function impairment including interstitial nephritis or nephrotic syndrome, agranulocytosis & thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
May inhibit natriuretic effect of frusemide. Reduced antihypertensive effect of propranolol & other β-blockers. Concomitant use w/ methotrexate, probenecid, anticoagulants, lithium, sulphonylureas, hydantoins.
