Primary hypercholesterolaemia & mixed dyslipidaemia (including Fredrickson type IIa, IIb; heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia) as an adjunct to diet when response to diet & exercise is inadequate. Primary dysbetalipoproteinaemia (Fredrickson type III hyperlipoproteinaemia) as an adjunct to diet when response to diet & exercise is inadequate. Reduces elevated LDL-C, total-C & triglycerides; increases HDL-C. Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia as an adjunct to diet & other lipid-lowering treatments (eg, LDL apheresis). Reduce risk of stroke, MI & arterial revascularization procedures in individuals w/o clinically evident CHD but w/ increased risk of CV disease based on age ≥50 yr in men & ≥60 yr in women, hsCRP ≥2 mg/L & presence of at least 1 additional CV disease risk factor (eg, HTN, low HDL-C, smoking or family history of premature CHD).
