Indications/Uses
Acute pain management in adults & adolescents >12 yr as continuous epidural infusion or intermittent bolus administration during post-op or labour pain; field blocks; continuous peripheral nerve block via continuous infusion or intermittent bolus inj (eg, post-op pain management). Acute pain management in paed (for peri- & post-op pain management) as caudal epidural block in neonates (>37 wk gestation & >2,500 g wt), infants & childn ≥12 yr; continuous epidural infusion in infants (>30 days & >2,500 g wt) & childn ≥12 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent >12 yr Acute pain management Lumbar epidural Bolus: 20-40 mg. Intermittent inj (top-up) (eg, labour pain management): 20-30 mg. Continuous infusion (including labour & post-op pain management): 12-28 mg/hr. Thoracic epidural Continuous infusion (post-op pain management): 12-28 mg/hr. Field block Minor nerve blocks & infiltration: 2-200 mg. Peripheral nerve block Continuous infusion or intermittent inj (eg, post-op pain management): 10-20 mg/hr. Paed Acute pain management (peri- & post-op pain) Caudal epidural 0-12 yr weighing up to 25 kg 2 mg/kg as single inj. Continuous epidural infusion Childn weighing 2.5-25 kg: ≥1 yr Bolus dose: 2 mg/kg. Infusion up to 72 hr: 0.4 mg/kg/hr, 6-12 mth Bolus dose: 1-2 mg/kg. Infusion up to 72 hr: 0.4 mg/kg/hr, 31 days to 6 mth Bolus dose: 1-2 mg/kg. Infusion up to 72 hr: 0.2 mg/kg/hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ropivacaine or other local anaesth of amide type. IV regional anaesth (Bier's block). Obstetric paracervical anaesth. Hypovolaemia. IV administration. Regional anaesth including neuraxial anaesth.
