Conjugated estrogens
Indications/Uses
Atrophic vaginitis, dyspareunia & kraurosis vulvae.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dosage range: 0.5-2 g daily, intravaginally or topically, depending on severity of condition. Cyclic administration (3 wk on & 1 wk off) should be used. Severe cases of atrophic vaginitis Mucosa should 1st be conditioned w/ a short course of oral therapy (1.25 mg daily for approx 10 days). Institute vag treatment at lowest effective dosage & regularly reassess requirement for estrogen therapy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding. Known, suspected or history of breast cancer. Known or suspected estrogen-dependent neoplasia (eg, endometrial cancer or hyperplasia). Active or history of arterial thromboembolic disease (eg, stroke, MI) or VTE (eg, DVT, pulmonary embolism). Known thrombophilic disorders (eg, protein C or S, or antithrombin deficiency). Active or chronic liver dysfunction or disease. Pregnancy.
