Oxycodone HCl
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe pain in patients w/ cancer & post-op pain. Severe pain requiring strong opioid use.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult >18 yr IV bolus 1-10 mg slowly over 1-2 min. Max dose interval: 4 hrly. IV infusion Starting dose: 2 mg/hr. IV PCA 0.03 mg/kg w/ a min lock-out time of 5 min. SC bolus Use as 10 mg/mL conc. Starting dose: 5 mg at 4-hr intervals. Opioid-naïve patient SC infusion Starting dose: 7.5 mg daily titrating gradually according to symptom control. Transferring patient between oral & parenteral oxycodone Dose ratio: 2 mg oral dose is equiv to 1 mg parenteral dose. Renal & hepatic impairment Reduce adult starting dose by 50% & titrate to adequate pain control according to the clinical situation. Elderly Administer the lowest dose w/ careful titration.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Resp depression; head injury; paralytic ileus; acute abdomen; chronic obstructive airways disease; cor pulmonale; chronic bronchial asthma; hypercarbia; chronic constipation; concurrent administration of MAOIs or w/in 2 wk of discontinuation of their use. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 ml/min). Pregnancy.
