Indications/Uses
Management of opioid responsive, moderate to severe pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage depending on pain severity or patient's previous analgesic requirement. Opioid-naïve patient or w/ severe pain uncontrolled by weaker opioids 5 mg 4-6 hrly. Patient receiving oral morphine prior oxycodone therapy Recommended daily dose ratio: Oxycodone 10 mg equiv to oral morphine 20 mg. Opioid-naïve patient w/ mild to moderate renal impairment & mild hepatic impairment Reduce the recommended adult starting dose by 50%.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not open/chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to opioids. Severe resp depression w/ hypoxia, cor pulmonale, cardiac arrhythmias, severe bronchial asthma, chronic bronchial asthma or other chronic obstructive airways disease, elevated blood CO2 levels, paralytic ileus, acute abdomen, delayed gastric emptying, acute alcoholism, brain tumor, increased cerebrospinal or ICP, head injury, severe CNS depression, convulsive disorders, delirium tremens, hypercarbia, chronic constipation, concurrent MAOIs administration or w/in 2 wk of discontinuation of their use. Not recommended for pre-op use. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min).
