Indications/Uses
Adults & childn w/ pneumonias & nosocomial pneumonias; UTI; intra-abdominal, gynaecological (eg, endometritis & pelvic inflammatory disease), skin & skin structure infections; meningitis; septicaemia. Monotherapy or in combination w/ anti-viral or anti-fungal agents as empiric treatment for presumed infections in adult patients w/ febrile neutropenia. Monotherapy or in combination w/ other antimicrobial agents in treatment of polymicrobial infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult Pneumonia, UTI, gynaecological, skin & skin structure infection 500 mg every 8 hr. Nosocomial pneumonia, peritonitis, presumed infection in neutropenic patient, septicaemia 1 g every 8 hr. Meningitis 2 g every 8 hr. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection 1 g every 8 hr. Max: 6 g daily in 3 divided doses. Adult w/ renal impairment: CrCl 26-50 mL/min 1 unit dose every 12 hr, 10-25 mL/min ½ unit dose every 12 hr, <10 mL/min ½ unit dose every 24 hr. Childn >3 mth to 12 yr 10-20 mg/kg every 8 hr. Childn weighing >50 kg Adult dose. Childn Meningitis 40 mg/kg every 8 hr. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection 20 mg/kg every 8 hr. Max: 120 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses.
