Lovastatin
Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated total & LDL-C levels in patients w/ primary hypercholesterolemia (types IIa & IIb) when the response to diet & other measures alone has been inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual starting dose: 20 mg daily as a single dose w/ the evening meal. Dosage adjustment if required should be made at intervals of not <4 wk to a max 80 mg daily given in single doses or divided doses w/ morning & evening meals. Severe renal insufficiency (CrCl <30 mL/min) Carefully consider & cautiously implement dosage increases >20 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases. Pregnancy & lactation.
