Indications/Uses
Primary hyperlipidemia including familial hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidemia as an adjunctive therapy to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol (TC), LDL-C, Apo-B, triglycerides & to increase HDL-C. Familial hypercholesterolemia in childn ≥10 yr when response to diet & other non-pharmacological measures are inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Starting dose: 20 mg once daily. May be increased to max 4 mg daily when lowering of the LDL-C level is insufficient. Dose adjustment should be made at ≥4-wk intervals. Moderate & severe renal impairment (GFR 30-59 & 15-29 mL/min/1.73 m2) & ESRD receiving hemodialysis Starting dose: 1 mg once daily. Max dose: 2 mg once daily. Childn ≥10 yr 1 mg once daily. May be increased to max 2 mg daily when lowering of LDL-C level is insufficient. Dose adjustment should be made at ≥4-wk intervals.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in serum transaminases; myopathy; receiving concomitant ciclosporin. Women of child bearing potential not taking appropriate contraceptive. Pregnancy & lactation.
